Things people who have built their homes wish they knew before they got started!

This week I wanted to tackle some of the pain points for people who have been through the new construction process.

I found a great plan online, but I found out it wasn’t designed for our climate.
While there are great websites for house plans, it’s very important to find out if your builder draws their own plans or works with a local architect. Most are able to adapt the plans you find online. It’s very important to listen and ask questions, as they see numerous house plans cross their desk.

I had no idea there would be so many choices to make!
This can be the fun and also simultaneously the most daunting part of building. Take some time to visit local open houses to see current trends in person. If there is a home show going on in your area, take the time to stop by to get some ideas. Creating a vision board or Pinterest board can also help you identify your style. Hiring a design consultant is another great option if you aren’t sure where to start.

I wish I knew how long it was going to take.
Depending on the time of year you are building, it can take approximately 4-6 months to finish a new construction home.

Here at The Greens we do our best to match you with the builder who will best suit your needs and goals. If you think new construction could be the right fit for you, or you are interested in learning more, reach out to myself, Meghan Hess, or Carol Saltus at (413) 579-8460 or visit our website at www.greensofsouthwick.com.

Warmest wishes,
Meghan
